Neptec Armored Cables

Introducing Neptec’s Armored Cable for Harsh Environments

What Is Armored Fiber Optic Cable?

Armored fiber optic cable is a type of cables for installation in harsh conditions or for applications that requires extra protection from challenging environments without sacrificing flexibility and functionality in the fiber network. Armored cables can be divided into two types based on the constructions on the outer jacket: interlocking and corrugated.

Interlocking armored fiber uses an aluminum armor layer wrapped around the fiber strands in a helix shape. This type of armored cables is often used in indoor and outdoor, which offers superior ruggedness and can withstand high crushing pressure during direct burial installation in construction site due to tough aluminum armor surrounding the fiber, while at the same time maintains data integrity by having less signal degradation in harsh environment.

Corrugated armored fiber is made with coated steel tape and folded around the inner portions of the cable during fabrication. This type of armor is often used for indoor and outdoor cables which offers protection against rodents chewing on cables and other environmental abrasion that may cause mechanical damages. As a result, it is mostly seen on fiber cables that will be left outdoors where sun and moisture could harm the cable, or in other rodent-prone areas like basements.

Why choose Neptec’s armored cabled assemblies?

Neptec Optical Solutions has over 10 years of experience specializing in customized armored fiber cable for military, industrial, long distance telecom and datacom applications. Armored fiber optic cables from Nepec meets stringent industry IEC 60794 standards, and are lighter, thinner, more cost-effective than competitors on the market. The reduction of weight and thickness allows Neptec’s armored cables to be lighter weight, more flexible, and easier to deploy in limited space.

What are the Applications of Armored Cable?

Armored fiber cables are suitable for both outdoor and indoor applications where reliability and durability are highly important to the business. It is the most cost-effective approach to safeguard the cable from harsh and industrial environments applications such as the following:

  • Industrial and construction
  • Underground direct burial
  • Riverbed and ocean floor
  • Indoor fiber optics control system
  • Long distance CCTV in building

Polarization-Maintaining (PM) Optical Fiber

What is Polarization-Maintaining (PM) optical fiber? The polarization of the light propagating in the regular single-mode fiber, however, gradually changes in an uncontrolled manner, depending on external perturbations such as temperature change and fiber movement. This problem can be solved by using a special fiber called PM fiber. PM fiber is constructed in the way
